Roy Zimmermann

Founder, Cannabis Certification Academy

Hospitality-trained. Ontario cannabis from day one. Built to raise the retail standard.

Roy Zimmermann built Cannabis Certification Academy through decades of real customer-facing experience across hospitality, leadership, and cannabis retail.

From hospitality leadership… to Ontario cannabis from day one… to building stronger retail systems.

One thing became clear:

The stores that win are the ones that operate with the strongest systems.

A Foundation Built Before Cannabis

Before cannabis retail, Roy’s professional foundation was built through years in hospitality and leadership — industries where customer experience, professionalism, and operational consistency were essential.

Oliver & Bonacini

Roy spent over a decade with Oliver & Bonacini, developing firsthand experience in premium customer service, professionalism under pressure, and the operational standards required to deliver consistent customer experiences.

Goose & Firkin

Roy also spent 3 years running Goose & Firkin, where leadership expanded into team accountability, operational management, and daily execution.

Across both hospitality and leadership, one lesson became clear:

Exceptional customer experiences are rarely accidental.

They are built through systems, standards, and consistency.

Ontario Cannabis From Day One

When Ontario’s legal cannabis market began, Roy was there during its earliest retail stages — gaining firsthand experience inside one of Canada’s newest and most operationally inconsistent retail industries.

What Ontario’s Early Retail Era Revealed

Working in legal cannabis from the beginning provided direct exposure to:

— Customer education challenges
— Compliance evolution
— Product-first sales culture
— Inconsistent customer experiences
— Weak onboarding systems
— Limited operational standardization

From the beginning, one thing became clear:

Product alone would not define the stores that won.
Professional operations would.

Being present during Ontario’s earliest legal cannabis retail era offered more than industry participation — it revealed both the opportunity and the operational gaps within a rapidly evolving market.

Those early experiences helped shape the operational philosophy that would later become Cannabis Certification Academy.

Scarlet Fire: Leadership, Systems, and Real-World Execution

Since Scarlet Fire’s opening in March 2021, Roy has helped operate within one of Ontario’s competitive cannabis retail environments — later becoming General Manager in December 2022.

This leadership role provided something critical:

The opportunity to move beyond observation…
And into real operational execution.

At Scarlet Fire, years of hospitality standards, cannabis retail experience, and multi-store insight increasingly reinforced the same conclusion:

Stronger systems create stronger stores.

Managing staff development, customer experience, operational consistency, and daily retail execution helped further shape the principles that would ultimately become Cannabis Certification Academy.

Why Cannabis Certification Academy Was Built

After years across hospitality, cannabis retail, multi-store systems, and leadership, one thing became increasingly clear:

Cannabis retail did not simply need more product knowledge.
It needed stronger professional operating systems.

The gap was not information alone.

It was execution.
It was consistency.
It was customer-facing professionalism.
It was structured staff development.

Cannabis Certification Academy was built to help close that gap — by giving cannabis retailers stronger standards, better staff development, and more professional operating systems.

"In a highly competitive and regulated cannabis market, the stores that win are the ones that run the most professional retail operations."
